HSB Welcomes New Associate Deans, CL&E Center
Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business welcomed two new associate deans in the fall 2025 semester.
Chris Pullig, PhD, was named associate dean for Faculty Excellence. Pullig had served as chair of the Department of Marketing since 2008.
Matt Quade, PhD, was named associate dean for Values-Based Leadership. Quade is the Kimberly & Aaron P. Graft Professor in Christian Leadership in Business and serves as the director of the newly formed Center for Christian Leadership and Ethics (CL&E), having led the initiative since 2022.
“Dr. Pullig brings a deep commitment to faculty development and academic excellence,” said David M. Szymanski, PhD, the William E. Crenshaw Endowed Dean at HSB. “His leadership will further strengthen our faculty as they pursue outstanding teaching, research and scholarship.”
Pullig said he is honored to serve in the new role and looks forward to the opportunity to assist faculty.
“At Hankamer, our faculty are doing extraordinary work that advances both scholarship and practice, driving meaningful impact across disciplines,” Pullig said. “I’m excited to do my part to continue supporting their efforts, cultivating a culture of academic excellence in both research and teaching, and empowering faculty to lead in shaping the future of business education.”
Szymanski said Quade’s role will deepen the Business School’s mission and vision to be the preeminent Christian business school.
“Dr. Quade embodies our commitment to cultivate principled leaders informed by faith and ethical practices,” Szymanski said. “His continued guidance of our values- and faith-based initiatives ensures our students find a place of belonging at Hankamer and graduate prepared to serve and lead with character.”
As Quade steps into this new role, he will continue to serve CL&E in its repositioning to serve as a better representative and resource for HSB as a whole.
“I look forward to helping steward our continued growth as a preeminent business school rooted in Christian values,” Quade said. “I am eager to grow the reach and impact of values- and faith-based programs within and beyond HSB for the benefit of students, alumni and stakeholders.”
Szymanski views the elevation of CL&E to a center as a meaningful statement for HSB.
“One of my initial impressions when I first visited Baylor was the outstanding student body,” he said. “Having served as dean these past few months, I fully embrace how instrumental Christian Leadership and Ethics has been in developing students with high morals and character.”
CL&E has experienced remarkable growth in recent years, enhancing existing programs while establishing new opportunities for students, alumni, faculty and staff, and stakeholders. Programs such as Christian Leadership in Business, Baylor Business: On Mission and the Armes Family Christian Leadership in Business Summit are just a few examples of HSB building business success and using its influence to reflect the character of Christ, Quade said.
“These programs allow people to learn, engage and encourage as they connect with each other in a community rooted in Christian values,” he said.
The appointments and the Center’s formation reflect HSB’s ongoing commitment to Christ-centered academic excellence, values-based leadership and the flourishing of its faculty and students.
