We are now two years into Illuminate, Baylor’s academic strategic plan. A lot of progress has been made in that time, especially in regard to the Give Light campaign. While we continue to work in each academic initiative featured in Illuminate, one stands out as an opportunity for us to make an impact: Baylor in Latin America.
There are several areas in which the Hankamer School of Business can increase engagement with Latin America. Free market economies have risen in the region over the past 30 years, which has changed the trade relationship between those countries and the U.S. This is an opportunity for our students and faculty to study these developing economic structures and the interactions that ensue.
In May, Baylor Business Fellows will have the chance to share their knowledge and compassion through Operación San Andrés in Collique, Peru. Students on this mission trip will focus on business consulting, medical care and educating locals. I am excited to see members of the Baylor family giving back to this community.
This issue of the Baylor Business Review showcases the opportunities to increase Baylor’s presence in Latin America. From helping developing companies get off the ground to building international relationships, the Hankamer School of Business faculty, staff, students, alumni and supporters are making an impact in the region.
On another note, this will be my last message in the Baylor Business Review. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to serve as dean of the Hankamer School of Business for almost 23 years. It has been an honor to work with and lead so many extraordinary people during this time. I look forward to the next stage of life and continuing to give back to the School and the Baylor community.
