Ed Crenshaw, BBA, serves as CEO of Publix Super Markets, the largest and fastest growing employee-owned supermarket chain in the U.S. For the 14th consecutive year, Publix was honored as one of Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For.” Publix was ranked No. 67 on the 2011 list and was one of only 13 companies to have made the list every year since its inception in 1998. Publix also ranked No. 20 on Fortune’s “Best Large-Sized Company” list, one of only four companies on the list with more than 100,000 employees. Publix also made the Fortune list of 15 companies to never have had a layoff.

J. Calvin Miller, BBA, CPA, has been named chief financial officer for Southwest Solutions Group, the largest innovative storage and filing solution’s company throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Tennessee, Missouri and Mississippi. Southwest Solutions Group is a full service company providing design, equipment, installation and ongoing service to all types of businesses. Miller is an accomplished CFO with experience in finance and accounting, mergers and acquisitions, operations management and strategic planning.
1981
Roland Garcia, BBA, was appointed by President Barack Obama to the Board of Visitors to the United States Naval Academy. He was also appointed co-chair of Houston Mayor Annise Parker’s re-election campaign finance committee. Garcia currently sits as chair of Parker’s Hispanic Advisory Board. He is a founding shareholder and management group member of the Houston office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP, an international law firm.
1983
Gabriel Lugo, BBA, received the Medaille Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques (Knight of the Order of Academic Palms). Lugo was awarded the Order of Chivalry of France for his major contributions to French national education and culture at the Alliance Française in Dallas and Cincinnati. The Alliance Française de Dallas (AFD) is a nonprofit, cultural and learning center dedicated to the study of the French language, cultural exchange and friendship between Americans and all French-speaking people. Lugo was made honorary president of the AFD in 2009 after serving for several years as its president. He is also president at Charles Taylor Risk Consulting, the risk management unit of London-based Charles Taylor Consulting.
Valari Dobson Staab, MBA, was named president of NBC Local Media by NBCUniversal. Staab was formerly the president and general manager of ABC owned KGO-TV, the market leading station in San Francisco, since 2002. As president of NBC Local Media, she will be responsible for NBC’s 10 owned-and-operated television stations, its local online properties and digital out of home division. She will also oversee the local lifestyle programming production company LX.TV and the in-house marketing and promotion company Skycastle Entertainment.

Deeia Beck, BBA, MBA ‘85, JD ‘94, was reappointed by Texas Gov. Rick Pery to the Office of Public Insurance Counsel, where she serves as public counsel, for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2013. The office represents insurance consumers in regulatory matters relating to insurance rates, rules and forms. Beck is a life fellow of the Texas and Tarrant County Bar foundations, and a member of the State Bar of Texas and Travis County Bar. She is also a consumer liaison for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and a member of the American Association for Justice.

Larry Starks, BBA, CFA, serves as senior managing director at Waterview Advisors, Inc., a Dallas-based investment bank that provides mergers and acquisition advisory, capital raising, and valuation services to middle-market companies across a broad range of industries and geographic markets. Starks and his team served as the M&A advisor for and closed the sale of Triple/S Dynamics, a manufacturer of horizontal motion conveying systems serving process industries, which was acquired by PRAB, Inc.

D’Lesli M. Davis, BBA, has been named partner at Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, a leading full-service international law firm. She represents corporate clients in all phases of complex commercial, copyright, First Amendment and entertainment litigation. She also has represented pharmaceutical and medical device clients in major drug and device products litigation. Davis received her JD from The University of Texas School of Law. She joined Fulbright in 2004 as senior counsel after ten years in private practice in Nashville, Tenn.

David Wilson, BBA, served as CEO of Spawn Labs, which was acquired by GameStop, the world’s largest multichannel video game retailer. The company now serves as GameStop’s cloud gaming division, and Wilson serves as the vice president and general manager of Cloud Gaming for GameStop. He lives in Austin with his wife Mary and four kids: Everett, Audrey, Lila and Felix.

Jerry Haag, BBA, MBA ’89, has been named vice president for university development at Baylor University. Haag previously served as president of the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes.
1989
David W. Hill, MBA, was named managing director at Innovation Capital, a leading boutique investment bank dedicated to representing mid-market clients in the gaming, leisure and hospitality industries. Hill will lead the firm’s restaurant and retail practice. Prior to joining Innovation Capital, Mr. Hill was managing director of Hill Asset Management and the managing director of the Corporate Advisory Services Group at Krass Monroe, P.A., a leading law firm serving the restaurant and retail segment.

Susan Schaffer Roberts, BBA, MTax ’91, CPA, a partner with Sanford, Baumeister & Frazier, PLLC, has been elected president of the Fort Worth Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. She will serve a one-year term. Roberts also received the “Meritorious Service to the Chapter” award for her leadership within the Fort Worth chapter. She has been involved with the chapter for numerous years and was named “Young CPA of the Year” in 2007. Roberts has also been named one of the “Top 40 Under 40 CPAs in the Nation” by The CPA Technology Advisor, and one of the top, local “40 Under 40” young leaders by the Fort Worth Business Press in 2008.

Robert Nitsche, BBA, has been named CEO of Insurance Network of Texas. Nitsche previously served as CFO and COO of the family-owned agency. Nitsche also serves as an advisory board member for Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business. He holds an MBA from Southern Methodist University and graduated from the distinguished Owner/President Management Program from Harvard University.

Dan Archer, CFP, BBA, Ray Tanner, BBA ’80, and business partner Brennan Cross have joined together to form ACT Wealth Management, LLC. ACT Wealth Management, LLC is a Registered Investment Advisory firm based in Plano, Texas, offering personal and institutional investment advisory and financial planning services. Archer, Tanner, and Cross have over 45 years of combined investment experience and have helped firms such as Retirement Advisors of America and True North Advisors, LLC, surpass over $1 billion in assets during their tenures.

Brian Jarvis, BBA, has been named president and COO of Andrews Logistics Inc. (ALI), an asset-based transportation logistics company providing third-party logistics services, including dedicated contract carriage, contract warehousing and freight management. Most recently, Jarvis served as vice president of finance and administration and as customer solutions manager prior to that position.

Rob Howard, BBA, was named to Dallas Business Journal’s “40 Under Forty” list of executives and entrepreneurs under the age of 40 who are at the top of their game professionally. The honorees also personally demonstrated a commitment to the North Texas community through their philanthropic service. Howard serves as founder and chief technology officer of Telligent, one of the pioneers in enterprise social community and workforce collaboration software.

Kelley Buchanan, MBA, was named executive vice president of TransUnion’s insurance business unit. TransUnion provides a wide range of analytic offerings to insurance companies to assist with coverages and pricing for policyholders, controlling premium erosion, reducing rate evasion and preventing fraud. Buchanan previously served as managing director and president of private client and executive benefits at Marsh, Inc., part of insurance brokerage company Marsh & McLennan Inc.

Alan Utley, BBA, was named director of Talent Management and Leadership Development for StandardAero, a Dubai Aerospace Enterprise company. Alan resides in San Antonio, Texas, with his wife, Melissa, also a Baylor ’99 graduate. Utley earned a BBA in Human Resources and Marketing, and went on to obtain his MBA in Project Management from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2007.

Michael Brown, BBA, MTax, CPA, senior manager at Jaynes, Reitmeier, Boyd & Therrell, P.C., was recognized among the accounting profession’s rising stars, selected as just one of 30 CPAs under age 36 for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ annual Leadership Academy in Durham, N.C. Brown joined colleagues from across the country for three days in October 2010 to learn cutting edge leadership theory, develop tools for handling complex management challenges, network with other up-and-comers and discuss a host of strategic issues facing CPAs and the accounting industry.
Amy Hartt, MBA, was named a managing director on the consulting services team at MedSynergies Inc., the leading provider of hospital-physician alignment solutions. Previously, Hartt served as director of non-labor practice at Wellspring+Stockamp, where she was responsible for project management and annual recurring expense reduction for acute care hospitals and integrated health care systems.

Brian Woods, BBA, was promoted to vice president, retail properties at Colliers International in Phoenix, Ariz. Woods joined Colliers International in 2003 and specializes in leasing regional power centers and representing national retail tenants throughout Arizona. Colliers International is the third-largest commercial real estate services company in the world with 15,000 professionals operating out of more than 480 offices in 61 countries.

C. Bryan Johnson, BBA, serves as the chief operating officer of Innovative Infusions, LLC. Johnson began his journey with Innovative Infusions, LLC in 2001. In approximately 10 years, he has successfully climbed the Innovative ladder from an intern to COO. During his climb, he moved to Austin, Texas, to open the Austin Infusion Center. Austin Infusion Center has grown to be one of the largest office-based infusion centers in the state. Now, Johnson focuses his time expertly engineering all aspects of Innovative to ensure growth and maintain excellence across all infusion centers. He also serves on the initial board of directors as President for the National Infusion Center Association (NICA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed to improve patient access to intravenous and injectable medications.
Reece Norris, BBA, serves as the president and CEO of Innovative Infusions, LLC., a management company designed to supervise and administer outpatient infusion delivery services. Norris is positioning himself to become an expert in the infusion and injectable therapy industry. Brian George, BBA, has been promoted to corporate development manager for the Houston Texans. George was a part of the Sports Sponsorship and Sales program while at Baylor.
2009
Allison Campbell, BBA, opened The Franklin Shops in her hometown of Ft. Myers, Fla. The 10,000-square foot building houses 27 different retailers providing products such as jewelry, home accessories and handbags.
Kyle Steven Haynes, BBA, was recently promoted to director of sales and marketing at Limestone Networks, Inc. Haynes has worked at the Dallas-based dedicated server-hosting company since graduation and has seen the startup company more than double in size in two years. Hired as an entry-level marketing analyst, Haynes now oversees both an inside and outside sales team as well as the marketing department. He is a member of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity.
